ABSTRACT

ENGLISH

The general objective of AGRO-SMARTGEL project is to design, build and test a demonstrator module for a SMART biofertilizer by using an innovative
biotechnology for conversion of pelt waste into a collagen matrix with encapsulated micro/macroelements. The interdisciplinary and transnational character of the
consortium structure is given by participation of a Research Centre from the most important technical Romanian university, two national research institutes from
the two countries, Romania and Greece, and two SMEs with scientific and technical expertise in novel and smart materials for new products and processes,
with high potential to be further developed for industrialization. The project team is committed to get return from the knowledge, technology and commercial potential
from the final outcomes of the present project:
(i) it contributes both to the reuse of poor and degraded soils in agriculture and to the recovery of protein waste which is currently disposed on landfills;
(ii) such smart biofertilizer is a valuable source of raw materials for agriculture, as protein waste composition provides sufficient elements to improve the quality
of degraded soils and plants, and thus can harness some elements: nitrogen, calcium, magnesium, sodium, potassium, etc.
(iii) reuse of pelt waste from tanneries is a reliable option for reducing waste and hence environmental impacts, as required by Directive 2008/98 / EC.

ROMANA

(i) sa contribuie la reutilizarea solurilor sarace si degradate din agricultura, concomitent cu recuperarea deseurilor de piele, care in prezent sunt depozitate pe teren;
Directivei 2008/98/EC.

OBIECTIV

English

The general objective of AGRO-SMARTGEL project is to design, build and test a demonstrator module for a smart biofertilizer by using an innovative biotechnology for conversion of pelt waste into a collagen matrix with encapsulated micro/macroelements. Embedding micro/macroelements in the collagen matrix will yield functional products in leather processing industry as retanning or filling agent, and in agriculture as controlled release biostimulator for plant growth.

Incorporarea micro/macroelementelor in matricea colagenica va conduce la produse functionale in industria de procesare a pielii, ca agent de umplere, precum si in agricultura ca biostimulator cu eliberare controlata pentru cresterea plantelor.
